Buying & Fitting Guide

Buying & Fitting Guide
A shock and a strut do the same basic job on a vehicle, damping the movement of the spring and stopping oscillation and bounce. Even though they do the same thing, shocks and struts are completely different parts. Every vehicle was designed with either shocks or struts and your vehicle's suspension cannot be changed to use the other. Strut mounts fix the strut system to the main structure of the vehicle, sometimes the mounts can fail due to wear, causing the strut to break away from the strut mount resulting in a free moving strut which restricts it from dampening energy caused my uneven road surfaces. In order to determine if your vehicle has shocks or struts, refer to your owner’s manual prior to purchasing your replacement part(s). Some important information for selecting the correct strut mounts is the type of strut needed; fitment position, mounting type, suspension type and date limitation of the unit. As car manufacturers regularly update certain peripherals and design of their models, some strut mounts will only be suitable for particular models of certain years.

Helpful Tips

Helpful Tips
Poor road conditions and potholes result in strut mount failures becoming more common. When strut mounts begin to fail, the driver can experience knocking sounds when traveling over indifferences of the road’s surface. Failures may also include heaviness in the vehicle’s steering system. The general rule of thumb is to have your strut mounts inspected at each servicing interval however, most vehicle manufacturers recommend having your struts mounts replaced in between 50,000 – 100,000 miles. If you experience any of these symptoms, make sure to have your struts mounts inspected as a failed mount can impair your vehicles performance and handling, rendering it less safe to drive.
