It's just been announced this week that the
RSA are seeking to make it mandatory for every car to carry a first aid kit and that failure to do so would incur penalty points. In add
ition to a first aid kit they are hoping to include a high-vis vest, warning triangle and a torch. It seems this is nothing new and many other EU countries already enforce these driving requirements. The RSA are hoping to have this emergency kit compulsory in all new cars from January 2016 and for all existing car from July 2016. This is part of the governments road safety strategy 2013-2020.
You may have read in some of our other posts such as
A guide to driving in France or
A guide to driving in Spain which highlights the driving requirements outlined in these countries. These requirements are regularly checked and failure to comply generally results in a fine. Ignorance is not a tolerated excuse.
